Participating in a Pranayama workshop with teacher guidance over a 4-week series offers numerous benefits for both body and mind. Pranayama is also known as breath control, breathing techniques, or functional breathing. With personalized attention and expert instruction, you'll practice different techniques correctly and safely, gradually building a stronger foundation and deepening your understanding of this transformative yoga practice. Breath control can bridge the gap between effort and ease in your physical (asana) practice, making challenging poses more accessible. Regular practice can enhance your lung capacity, improve circulation, reduce stress, promote mental clarity, and help you develop a sustainable home practice for long-term wellness. Unlock the power of your breath and discover inner peace and enhanced energy with our Pranayama for Beginners class! Sessions 1 & 2: Deep Breathing Techniques and Yoga Asanas (September 21 and 28) In Session 1 and 2, you'll learn to breathe fully and deeply, learn about the diaphragm (a large muscle at the bottom of your lungs) and the rib cage, and how to engage them to enhance your breath. This workshop covers the basics of deep yogic and resonance breathing techniques to help you restore balance and harmonize life-sustaining systems of your body and mind. What You'll Learn: Breathing Techniques: Discover how to use deep yogic and resonance breathing techniques for overall well-being. Ease of Practice: Follow along with clear explanations and demonstrations by the teacher. Yoga Poses (Asanas): Explore poses to create space and awareness to practice pranayama. Five Directions of the Spine: Learn movements to stretch and strengthen your spine. Supine Position Sequences: Learn gentle, restorative postures that promote relaxation and alignment Pranayama in Seated Position: Practice different types of breathing techniques. Sessions 3 & 4: Extended Practice and Functional Breathing In these sessions, we will focus on practices that increase in duration, offering 60 minutes of simple guided practice. Learn the basics and importance of functional breathing, how to be still, and how to nourish your nervous system. You come away with more understanding of the basics of a pranayama practice and take away techniques to create a pranayama practice you can do on your own. What You'll Learn: Extended Practice: Engage in longer, guided sessions to deepen your breathing practice. Functional Breathing: Understand the fundamentals and significance of proper, functional breathing. Nervous System Nourishment: Learn techniques to calm and nourish your nervous system. Practice Breathing Techniques: Deepen your practice by focusing on select breathing techniques to allow for more in-depth exploration and refinement of each technique. Who should sign up? This workshop is suitable for all levels. The instructions are designed to be easily understandable and allow each student to start building a pranayama practice for the first time or re-energize an established practice. We highly recommend signing up for Session 1 and 2 before participating in Session 3 and 4; however, it is not required.
